Professor Bj?rn Thomassen has prepared the following theme for his lecture: Rethinking Social Theory - Global Political Sociology in Perspective.

In this inaugural lecture I will present and discuss my overall contribution to social theory, developed during my tenure here at 真人线上娱乐 University. Social theory is that kind of theory which should help us to understand and explain this modern world in which we all live. What caused the rise of the modern world? What are the driving forces of the constant change inherent to modernity? And what is the underlying ‘spirit’ of such forces? 

Presenting an anthropologically inspired theoretical tool-kit, I argue that the concepts of liminality, imitation, schismogenesis and trickster can serve to revitalise social theory, diagnosing the current global condition. I will also draw the contours of a “positive sociology” or what I call “a sociology for life”.
