On Thursday the 22nd of April, Lisa Merete Kristensen successfully defended her PhD dissertation over the course of three hours. She initiated the defence with a themed lecture titled “A framework for understanding and studying news values in a digital age”, where she both unfolded the conceptual framework she had developed as part of her PhD and illustrated its usefulness through her multiple empirical studies.

The PhD dissertation was assessed and awarded by a committee comprised of Professor Arjen van Dalen (Chair), SDU, Associate Professor Ester Appelgren, Sodertorn University, and Senior Associate Professor Aske Kammer, DMIX. All committee members expressed their deep satisfaction with the work carried out and found the research very timely when commenting on the work.

The PhD dissertation is titled “New Values in a Digital Age” and was conducted as an Industrial PhD in collaboration with the Danish news media Fyens Stifttidende and as part of the research at the University of Southern Denmark. Lisa will continue this line of work at the DataPublics project as a Postdoc, particularly focusing on the digital infrastructures in the news industry and their relations to the formation of publics in a datafied society.
