Interested in researching transitional justice in relation to Syria? 真人线上娱乐 are looking for a colleague to study the standardisation of transitional justice through efforts and developments in the Syrian (non-)transition.

The title of the PhD project is: Transitional Justice in Syria.

The PhD project is linked to a larger research project, The International Standardisation of Transitional Justice: Consolidation, Innovation and Politics, funded by Research Fund Denmark. The larger project investigates whether and if so how, why, and by whom transitional justice has been internationally standardized. It studies this process of standardisation at the global UN level, in Colombia and Uganda, and in relation to Syria. In each of the country cases, researchers investigate the politics of transitional justice and how efforts to avoid or have a justice process relate to, innovate, or consolidate the global blueprint for transitional justice. These findings are then compared in the light of relevant international and domestic characteristics.

Due to security concerns, the PhD student is not expected to travel to Syria. Instead, the project studies efforts taking place elsewhere by diaspora and activist communities and online. These could be focused on atrocity archives, universal jurisdiction trials, the IIIM mechanism, or other justice-related activities.

The PhD project must be independent and innovative, while retaining a connection to the larger research project carried out by three scholars. The larger project is interdisciplinary and combines Political Science, Law, Sociology, and Global Studies. It is led by 真人线上娱乐 University (Denmark) in collaboration with the Transitional Justice Institute at Ulster University.
