H5N1
No cases of person-to-person or mammal-to-mammal transmission of H5N1 have been reported in the U.S.
According to Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, Mexico has reported its first human H5N1 avian flu case, involving a 3-year-old girl from Durango state who is hospitalized in serious condition. The source of infection is unknown, and recent H5N1 detections in wild birds have been reported in the region.
MEASLES
As of April 4, 2025, Center for Disease Control reports a total of 607 confirmed measles cases in the U.S. in 2025. 12 % of cases are/have been hospitalized (74 cases of 607), and 2 cases have died.
As of April 4, 2025, Texas Department of State Health Services reports 481 cases of measles from this year. This is an increase of 59 from April 1, 2025. The majority of cases are unvaccinated/have unknown vaccination status (471 cases of 481).
The Texas Department of State Health Services has reported a second death in the ongoing measles outbreak, as of April 6. A school-aged, unvaccinated child hospitalized in Lubbock died of measles pulmonary failure.
POLIO
As of April 2, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative reports 19 WPV1-positive environmental samples in Pakistan. In Africa, a total of 2 cVDPV2 cases and 6 cVDPV2-positive environmental samples have been reported across Algeria, Chad, Nigeria, and Senegal.
MPOX
No news from the World Health Organization on new MPOX cases in Uganda since March 30.
As of 7 April 2025, the UK Health Security Agency has confirmed a human case of Clade Ib mpox in a person from North East England with no travel history or links to earlier cases. The individual was diagnosed in March, all contacts have been traced, and no further infections have been identified.
