Possible scenarios for the spread of mpox outside the endemic focus in Africa

As a result of the seminar hosted by PandemiX and Statens Serum Institut in oktober 2024, an article has been produced. It's being published by International Journal of Infectious Diseases.

The article presents a perspective on the upsurge of mpox cases, an overview of the emergence of clade Ib, as well as control strategies for the containment of mpox. Read the full article through this link.

Mpox was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by World Health Organization (WHO) in August 2024, because of the dramatic increase in mpox cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the subsequent spread to surrounding countries. The authors of the article examine the challenges of clade Ib, that is transmitted from human to human, and elucidate the importance of continous surveillance, testing and sequencing of mpox.

They conclude that it is crucial and a global responsibility to ensure meaningful access to vaccines in low-income nations.
