H5N1

U.S.

As of June 20, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports no cases of person-to-person transmission of H5N1 in the United States.The total remains at 70 confirmed cases and one death.

Cambodia has reported its fifth death from H5N1 avian influenza in 2025, according to BNO News on June 21. The patient, a 52-year-old man from Svay Rieng province, died after developing symptoms such as fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. He had reportedly handled sick or dead poultry shortly before symptom onset. Health authorities are monitoring close contacts, providing antiviral treatment, and investigating potential additional exposures.

 

MPOX

Africa

Sierra Leone: As of June 15, 2025, Sierra Leone has reported 4,085 confirmed mpox cases, according to the World Health Organization. This represents a continued surge, with 945 new cases added since June 1. 

Uganda has reported 5,503 confirmed mpox cases as of June 15, 2025, according to the World Health Organization. This is an increase of 376 cases since June 1. 

 

MEASLES

U.S.

As of June 20, 2025, Center for Disease Control reports a total of 1,214 confirmed measles cases in the U.S. in 2025. 12 % of cases have required hospitalization (146 cases of 1,214), and three deaths have been reported. 

As of June 17, 2025, the Texas Department of State Health Services reports 750 measles cases this year - an increase of 6 since June 10. 

Canada

As of June 23, 2025, Canada has reported 3,381 measles cases, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada. The majority of cases (65%) have been reported in Ontario. Of the total, 761 cases (28%) occurred in adults aged 18 and over. In all, 87% were unvaccinated, and 7% required hospitalization. Genotype D8 remains the most frequently detected strain. 1 death have been reported. 

 

POLIO

As of June 18, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative reports 47 WPV1-positive environmental samples in Pakistan. In Africa, one cVDPV2 case has been detected in Benin, and four cVDPV2 cases have been reported in Ethiopia. Djibouti has identified eight cVDPV1-positive environmental samples. Outside Africa, Papua New Guinea has reported two cVDPV2-positive environmental samples.
